About Issue One Photography
All photography for Issue One (what you see + forthcoming works throughout September) was provided to us by the kind & talented Mick Davidson, who appeared in our Issue Zero. Here is an artist statement from Mr. Davidson.
I take photos of graffiti because it’s art and deserves to be treated in a civilised way, as do the artists. I also do it because it’s always changing or being removed or painted over. Unless your name is Banksy of course. But merely recording the work isn’t always enough, you have to try and bring in the surroundings, the context in which its placed and the world that both we and it live.
You can find more information on Mr. Davidson at his website A World in Pictures + Words.
Just finished “Where The Boys Are”, it was the photograph that drew me in initially. I LOVE the combination of the bright colors and quirky drawing next to the stately buildings in the background and the chill of the white snow with the hot colors. The composition makes me want to walk in the alleyway and be surprised by more graffiti…a clever secret for those who are willing to explore.
